People respond in time of need

I am so thankful that I am witnessing the good in people.

As you may know, South Lake Tahoe is in a state of emergency.  The fire that is burning has destroyed many acres as well as many structures and homes.  Some may think of South Lake Tahoe as being inhabitted by the rich and famous, however, the section of homes that have been destroyed were homes owned by the working people.  These weren't all vacation homes or owned by the rich and famous.  These are peoples only homes with all their belongings that have burned to the ground.  Unfortunately, it has displaced many families.

I so desprately wanted to help.  I checked the Red Cross website to see how I could volunteer, however, you have to go through their training, etc.  Since it was an immediate emergency, I had no time to train.  I felt like I needed to do something.  I felt so helpless in this tragedy.

Thankfully, our church, Carson Valley Christian, got together and became the offical drop off point in the Carson Valley for donations of food, water, ice, snacks, clothing, blankets, personal hygiene items, etc.  An email was sent to the church family and we all started donating what was needed.  Then volunteers were needed to sort out all the donated items before they can go onto a trailer and delivered to the lake.

I just got home from volunteering at the church.  We sorted all sizes of clothes for adults and children.  We were almost done, when cheerful givers brought more items needed.  It is so fulfilling to be involved at a time of need.  I may not be working the fire or helping evacuate the people, but I am still able to help in a small way and see for myself how God is working through all the volunteers, givers, and church leaders.
